Shark Navigator Swivel LEAD WARNING

I was at Costco this weekend and was looking over the box for the Shark Navigator Swivel UV410. On the bottom of the box is the following warning:

It reads: WARNING: This product contains chemicals, including lead, known to the State of California to cause cancer, and birth defects and other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.

Scary AND inconvenient

I just chatted with a Shark customer service rep. She said the lead warning was for the box itself, not the vacuum. Since handling the box is just one time thing and it won't be sitting around the house the lead issue isn't such a big thing.

How does a box contain lead? And all the other information on that label pertains to the machine itself:

on the top section
"Made In China"
"For replacement accessory information..."
"this unit may differ slightly than what is depicted on this box"

And everything in the Household Use pertains to the machine as well. I find it hard to believe that information above the Warning and below the Warning are about the actual vacuum and the Warning is about the box. Sounds like BS from Shark.

stuplid liberal california forces companies to put this warning on almost anything. The amount of lead can be minescule and un-measurable but they have to put that label on anything.

Shark needs to come clean with consmers about the safety of their products. Just as one writer wrote that the customer rep stated that the lead was contained in the box and not the machine itself. That is hard to beleave. I beleave that that warning on the box has everything to do with that machine.I feal like people need to be informed about the safety of the products that they use around themselves and thier families. The makers of these machines need to tell consumers the turth about the safety hazards of their products. I feel that Companies such as this need to learn to have a little integrity and stop selling people BS just to make a buck.

I called Shark and the rep said don't worry about it, they have to put that on for California. I said that doesn't make sense. He told me to hold on and supposedly talked to someone and said they told him it meant if you eat the plastic on the vac. How ridiculous.
